Dear track & field friends,

Olympic Essenbeek-Halle (OEH) regrets to announce that its Flanders Cup meeting on Saturday August 1, 2020 in Huizingen has been CANCELLED.

This decision was not taken lightly. We would have preferred to offer athletes and fans a first-class event filled with thrilling races and dozens of PBs, even in these COVID-19 times. Over the past few days, we have studied numerous possible scenarios in order to be able to host the BMW Louyet Vandeperre Flanders Cup Light after all. None of those turned out to be sufficiently 'corona proof' though, especially now numbers of new COVID-19 infections are on the rise again and even more stringent safety measures can be expected.

As a club we have a social responsibility too. The health and safety of athletes, officials, spectators, our own OEH staff and society as a whole always come first. We absolutely want to avoid all risks of the virus spreading through our meeting. In the current circumstances, we think it is simply unjustifiable to organize an event of this size.

We know that we are disappointing lots of people, especially the athletes who have been craving for competition for months now. The athletes’ interest in our meeting has been phenomenal. Several top athletes from Belgium and abroad had already confirmed their participation. Many thanks for the enthusiasm shown. And thank you for your understanding. Hopefully we can welcome most of you all next year at a 'healthy' Flanders Cup 2021.

See you then.

In the meantime: STAY HEALTHY! STAY SAFE!
